It is estimated that one out of every three Americans are affected by cancer. We all have very personal stories from people we care deeply about having been affected by this devastating disease, whether through a family member, a work colleague, or one of our extended family of clients. You may personally be a cancer survivor or battling it today – and are an inspiration to many.
Thanks to leading medical institutions, including several right here in Boston like Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, great progress has been made in prevention, diagnosis and cures. But with over 14.5 million current cases in the U.S and over 1.5 million new cases expected to be diagnosed this year, we are a long way from its eradication.
The Jimmy Fund is dedicated to the fight against cancer at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Since 1948, The Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars through thousands of grassroots efforts to help save lives and give hope to cancer patients everywhere.
While we support many charitable causes, our Company just entered into a partnership with the Jimmy Fund, the first of its kind between the Jimmy Fund and an automotive retailer. Why the Jimmy Fund? From our first meeting, I knew we shared the same core values, including the commitment to excellence, quality care and innovation. With their impact in and beyond New England, this is an opportunity for us to “give back” to our extended families and the communities we serve.
We kicked off this partnership with a $225,000 commitment, and will match individual client and employee donations. We will also contribute several of our billboards to help raise awareness for the Jimmy Fund. In addition, we will participate in various fundraising events in conjunction with other Jimmy Fund partners throughout the year. Within each dealership, we will offer the opportunity to sign up for a Boston Red Sox / Jimmy Fund license plate, which provides funding dollars for patient care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
This cause is important to me, as I am sure it is for many of you. This is an opportunity for us to join together to support our medical community the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in particular.

||NOW OPEN – The all new Herb Chambers Lexus of Hingham, across from the Derby St Shoppes. This brand new 39,000 square foot two-story Lexus dealership is located @ 141 Derby Street in Hingham.
At a young age Jim Xaros, like many other children, was fascinated by cars. That interest developed into a passion, and Jim joined the automobile industry when he was 17 years old and began working his way up the ladder.
He joined the Herb Chambers organization in 1992 and oversees dealership operations. In his role as Vice President of The Herb Chambers Companies, Jim Xaros is intricately involved in all aspects of the company. His industry knowledge and experience has helped the company to service their customer base and continue to grow throughout New England.
When Herb Chambers opened his first car dealership in 1985, there were 33,000 dealerships in the country, and he was among the smallest. Today, The Herb Chambers Companies is the largest automobile dealer in New England, and the 11th largest in the nation.
Xaros credits the growth of the company to the hard working employees at each dealership and to the company’s emphasis on customer satisfaction.
“Customer satisfaction has always remained our top priority,” said Jim Xaros. “We have grown the company to what it is today because of the hard work our employees put in each day to provide the best possible experience for our customers.”
Throughout the years, Xaros has seen the industry change quite a bit. “We have seen a lot change in the industry during our time,” he said. “But one thing is for certain, The Herb Chambers Companies will be here for many years to come, offering our customers convenient and comfortable facilities to purchase and service their vehicles.”
